CAIRO_5 June 2020: Chelsea have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign the team's German striker Timo Werner, according to BBC reports.

Werner has been one of the best talents in Europe since he joined RB Leipzig from his childhood club VfB Stuttgart in 2016.

This season, Werner was a key player for his team during the current Bundesliga season, having scored 25 goals and provided 7 assists and he comes second in the Top scorers list behind Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski.

Werner also played a vital role to lead his team to UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in the club's history.

Chelsea beat their arch rivals Liverpool who were interested in signing the striker to strengthen their squad.

Former Liverpool legend Steve Nicol believes that Liverpool made a mistake in allowing Chelsea to steal the German striker.

Nicol said "I think Liverpool have slipped up here. No question, Werner would have given the front three - as great as they are and have been - it would have kept them on their toes".
