CAIRO – 24 June 2017: The 2017 World Taekwondo Championship opens Saturday in Muju, South Korea and will run from June 24-30. The Egyptian national team traveled to South Korea June 10 to begin preparing for the competition.

Egypt’s national team includes Moaz Nabil, Hedaya Malak, Rawan El Refai, Radwa Reda, Mohamed Farag, Youssef El Sayed, Mohamed Ayman, Habiba Essam and Noor Hussein.

This competition will be the largest in the history of the Taekwondo Federation. There are 971 athletes and 796 officials from 183 nations. Previously, the largest event was held in Copenhagen in 2009 with 928 athletes from 142 nations competing, according to Yonhap News Agency.

A refugee athlete will participate under the World Taekwondo Federation flag or the first time: Iranian-born Dina Prouryounes Langeroudi, who will compete in the F-46kg category. Langeroudi lives in the Netherlands and will be coached by Netherlands team, but she will compete under the WTF flag, according to the federation.
