Hosam Abdin through to ABC quarter finals

CAIRO –22 June 2017: National team boxer Hosam Bakr Abdin (75kg) has qualified to the quarter final of the African Boxing Championships AFBC being held in Brazzaville, Congo, starting June 17 - 25.

Bakr, the holder of the 2015 World Championship bronze medal, qualified for the quarter-finals after winning against the Ugandan boxer Youssef Abdul Samad, according to the International Boxing Association AIBA website.

His compatriot Hisham Abdel Aal Yahya (60kg) failed to qualify after losing to Moroccan boxer Mohamed Hamout.

The Egyptian team consists of five boxers: Hisham Abdel Aal Yahya (60kg), Islam El Gendi (64kg), Walid Said (69kg), Hosam Bakr Abdin (75kg) and Yousri Rizk (91kg).

The national team players are aiming to qualify for the World Boxing Championships scheduled for September in Hamburg, Germany. The first four boxers in each weight class of the African championship will qualify for the Hamburg World Boxing Championships.
