CAIRO – 22 June 2017: USM Alger sealed a precious 2-0 victory against Zamalek in the CAF Champions League group stages on the first hours of Wednesday at July The Fifth Stadium in Algeria.

Zamalek had a great opportunity to score the opening goal in the first few minutes but the chance was missed by their striker Bassem Morsy. USM Alger started the first half looking for a quick goal to give them the lead, while Zamalek sat in defense aiming to score a goal in the counter attacks through using Shikabala and Stanley Ohawuchi (known as Stanley) on the wing.

In the last 15 minutes of the first half USM Alger took complete control of the game and had several chances. It was not until the 44th minute, however, that USM Alger scored its first goal with a header from Reda Belahcen.

Zamalek started the second half looking for an equalizer. Stanley missed a great chance for the equalizer at the 48th minute. In the 60th minute Tarek Hamed from Zamalek and Amir Sayoud from USM Alger were sent off after Hamed tackled Sayoud, earning him his second yellow card.

Meanwhile, Sayoud took revenge by pushing Hamed to the ground, for which he got a red card. On the 66th minute Shikabala had a great chance to score the first goal for Zamalek but a USM Alger defender prevented the ball from entering the goal.

Zamalek had several chances to score. However, USM Alger scored a superb second goal by Bentahar Meziane after missing several chances in the last ten minutes.

With this result, USM Alger from Algeria is now in first place in the group with 7 points, while Al-Ahli Tripoli from Libya is second, also with 7 points. Zamalek SC from Egypt is in third with 5 points and CAPS United from Zimbabwe is last with 3 points.
