Eintracht appoints Costa as first female scout

CAIRO – 20 June 2017: Eintracht Frankfurt announced the signing of the first female scout in the Bundesliga on June 18, Portuguese-born Helena Margarida dos Santos e Costa.

Frankfurt is aiming to expand their pool of talent worldwide, and signing Costa will help the club increase their scope.

Fredi Bobic, director of Eintracht, told the Bundesliga website that Costa “has real knowledge of football and has already experienced a great deal in her life in the sport. We want scouts who live in and the countries where we are looking for talent.”

The 39 year old Costa worked as a coach at the Benfica youth system for 13 years from 1997-2010. According to BBC football Costa was appointed as the manager of Clermont men’s team in 2014. With this appointment Costa became the first woman to manage one of the top two divisions in one of the top five European leagues.
