CAIRO – 18 June 2017: Chile begin their participation in FIFA Confideration Cup 2017 in Russia with a win against Cameroon 2-0 this Sunday, Arturo Vidal and Eduardo Vargas scored the two goals.

The first half started with a possession game from Chile with their strikers failing to score from the many chances they had. Cameroon also had chances to score through their striker Vincent Aboubaker.

Alexis Sanchez came on from the bench to lead his team to win. Sanchez gave an assist to Arturo Vidal minutes after his substitution to score the first goal for Chile.
Cameroon made many attempts to equalize, but Sanchez when he passed the ball to his teammate Vargas, Vargas put the goal easily in the net putting Chile at a two-goal lead.

Chile is currently top of the group after the win, waiting for the results of the second match in the group tomorrow between Germany and Australia.
FIFA chose Arturo Vidal as “Man Of The Match” after his contribution to Chile’s win.

In the first match of the day, Hector Moreno scored a late header against Portugal to end the match between Mexico and Portugal 2-2. Moreno scored the goal from a corner in the last minute before the final whistle blew. Portugal’s Pepe scored what looked like the first goal of the match until the referee Nestor Pitana disallowed the goal after using referring to the “Video Assistant Referee”.

Another chance from Portugal led to the first goal, after Cristiano Ronaldo passed the ball to Quaresma who put away the ball in an empty net. Mexico equalized soon after with a header from Javier Hernandez before the players went in for halftime.

The second half was similar to the first one with many chances from both teams until Portugal scored in the 83th minute through a deflected shot from Cedric Soares.

However Portugal didn’t succeed in keeping their lead after Hector Moreno equalized the score in the last minute. Portugal will next face Russia and Mexico will face what is expected to be an easy win against New Zealand in the next fixture.

Russia after the first fixture is leading the group by 3 points, Mexico and Portugal share second position with 1 point each and New Zealand are trailing behind with no points.
