File- A-Ahly clash against Etoile in Sousse in 2017 CAF Champions League Semifinal

CAIRO – 10 October 2019: CAF Champions League Group Stage draw held on Wednesday night in Cairo and the Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly were handed a tough group.

Al-Ahly were drawn alongside Tunisian giants, Etoile du Sahel, Sudan’s Al Hilal and FC Platinum from Zimbabwe.

Al-Ahly will face Etoile in Souse at the first game of the group stage.

The Olympic Stadium in Sousse brings back great memories for Al-Ahly fans as the Egyptian giants’ golden era started there in 2005 when both teams met at the competition’s final.

The first leg in Souse ended with a goalless draw while Al-Ahly destroyed their opponents at the second leg to win their fourth Champions League history and the first one for the golden generation.

The golden generation later confirmed their supremacy over the continent as they reached the final for next three years and won the title twice in 2006 and 2008. Their only loss came in 2007 against Etoile du Sahel who got revenge from their loss in 2005.

Al-Ahly met the Tunisian side 11 times including two Champions League Finals and a Super Cup Final in 2006, which ended with a victory for Al-Ahly.

Their last encounter came in 2017 CAF Champions League semis and the game ended with a massive 6-2 victory for the Egyptian side.
