CAIRO, 08 October 2019:On this day, October 8, 2017, the Egyptian national team qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after beating Congo 2-1 thanks to Mohamed Salah last minute goal.

Egypt faced Congo in the meeting held between them at the stadium of Borg El Arab in the fifth round of the African qualifiers for the World Cup Russia 2018.

It was the third time that Egypt qualified for the World Cup after 1934 and 1990, where they were eliminated from the first round.

Egypt owes this achievement to its star Mohamed Salah, who opened the scoring with an individual effort after a ball in the left side of the Congolese area followed by a shot.

Itbecame difficult for the "Pharaohs", which remained ahead until the last minutes, when Moto equalized through a shot to the right of veteran goalkeeper Essam Al-Hadari at 87th minute.

The two sides lived crazy minutes after Gambian referee BakariGasama counted about eight minutes of wasted time during which the Egyptians were able to resolve the score. The protagonist was Trezegeuet who earned a penalty for the Egyptian side after being blocked by the Congolese defense.

The Pharaohs team participated in the World Cup Russia 2018, and lost to Uruguay by one goal, and against Russia 1-3, while the last defeat from Saudi Arabia 2-1.
