CAIRO - 13 June 2017: Egypt came first in the ranking of the African Championship Fencing Tournament that was held June 8-12 in Cairo.

The Egyptian team came in first after winning 17 medals: six gold, four silver and seven bronze. Tunisia placed second with 13 medals - five gold, five silver and three bronze - and in third came the Ivory Coast with two medals, one each of gold and silver.

The final day of the tournament saw the Pharaohs crowned as champions for the men’s fencing team after beating the Tunisian national team 45/37. Egypt’s women’s fencing team came second, winning the silver after their loss to the Tunisian national team in the final with a score of 38/45.

Egypt has been recently seen a number of rising talents in fencing. Alaa Abu El Kassem, Mohamed Essam, Ayman Fayz, Noura Mouir, Aya Mahdy and Nada Attawy are among the best players in the sport in Egypt this season.
