CAIRO – 16 August 2019: When Liverpool announced the signing of the Spanish goalkeeper, Adrian, on a free transfer on 5 August, no one expected that he will be the club’s hero just 10 days later.

Adrian joined Liverpool after five years defending West Ham United jersey which came to an end at the conclusion of last season.

“Two weeks ago I really didn’t know who I was going to sign for, whether in Spain or another league. But Liverpool came to me and asked me. It’s the best decision I’ve taken in my life now.” Adrian said.

The Spaniard knew his role at the club as a substitute for the starting goalkeeper, Alisson Becker but what happened during the team’s opening game at the Premier League surprised the club and their new goalkeeper.

Alisson suffered an injury during the first half of the game against Norwich City which meant that Adrian has to be ready to help his team.

He continued ““I knew the moment was going to come but obviously not as quick as it has. I’m really happy to be here and really proud for the players to help me from the beginning. They opened their arms to make me feel like a great friend.”

Alisson suffered a serious injury which meant that the Spanish goalkeeper will be Liverpool’s guard for the next two months including the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea.

Liverpool fans doubted Adrian’s abilities ahead of the game but his performance calmed the team’s players and their fans despite he conceded two goals during the game including one from the penalty spot but he saved his team from Chelsea’s clear chances.

Adrian also saved Chelsea’s last penalty to crown his team UEFA Super Cup champions.
