Egyptian fencers on impressive trail of African medals

CAIRO – 11 June 2017: Egyptian fencer Ayman Alaa claimed the title of the 2017 Egypt African championship in Sabre.

The London 2012 Olympics silver medalist Alaaeldin Abouelkassem scored gold at the same championship in Epee fencing on Thursday after edging out his Tunisian counterpart 15-10.

Meanwhile, Lujain al-Faramawy and Mariam Ahmed scooped bronze at the Foil contests.

In the women's Sabre contests, national team fencer Salwa Gaber won silver after she lost the final to Côte d'Ivoire champion.

The African champion is slated for June 8-12.
