CAIRO – 26 July 2019: Al-Ahly manager, Martin Lasarte, revealed his happiness as he led his team to win 2019 Egyptian League title after a fierce competition with arch-rivals, Zamalek.

“Many fans doubted me at the beginning but I always trusted my team and at the end we won the title.” Lasarte said on Friday.

Al-Ahly defeated Arab Contractors 3-1 at Borg El Arab Stadium to reach 77 points and win the 41st league title in the club’s history.

Al-Ahly opened the scored after 22 minutes by Ali Maaloul who followed Walid Soliman’s free-kick while Hussein El Sahaht added two goals for Al-Ahly at the second half.

Lasarte continued “ I was so lucky to win a competition in South America and Europe and now I am a champion in Africa. I am so happy.”

Lasarte led Uruguay’s Nacional to win the title twice in 2005 and 2006 and he continued his successes in Europe with Spain’s Real Sociedad, leading them to win the Second Division title in Spain.
