CAIRO - 13 July 2019: Senegal manager, Aliou Cisse, revealed on Saturday that his team are two steps away from being the continent’s champions for the first time in the history.

Senegal’s best achievement at the competition was playing the final in 2002 against Cameroon when they lost by penalty shootouts.

“We're close to the goal, in the sense of us being in the semi-finals. Having got to this stage here we have hope. But we know the hardest is yet to come.” Cisse said.

Cisse, Senegal’s captain at the time, missed a vital penalty for Senegal during the shoot-outs.

The manager continued “We hope this year will be the right one. We're two steps away, which is both a long way and not that far at the same time."

Senegal reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2006 when they lost 2-1 to the hosts, Egypt and they hope for a different destiny this time.

Senegal will face Tunisia at 30 June Stadium on Sunday at 6:00 PM.
