CAIRO, 7 July 2019:Javier Aguirre, coach of Egypt, showed his pride in the elements he chose for the list that participated in the 2019 African Nations Cup.

Egypt lost at their home in the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 33 years against South Africa in the 16th round.

"The game was open and saw several chances, the only difference was South Africa's success in scoring a goal that helped them qualify," Aguirre said at the press conference after the game.

"I am responsible for this defeat," Aguirre concluded.

A great shock to the Egyptian team as they bid farewell to the African Cup in their home, after standing without doing anything, against South Africa who fought and won a historic victory.

This is the first defeat for Egypt in their home since 1986, when they hosted the tournament.

Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida sacked the Egyptian national team coaching staff on the early hours of Sunday.

Abo Rida, as well as many board members, resigned from their position.
The Egyptian players let down the fans who packed the Cairo Stadium to support the team.
