CAIRO – 24 June 2019: Algeria national team manager, DjamelBelmadi, revealed his happiness after his team’s comfortable victory over Kenya at the opening game of Group C at 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

“It means a lot to win the first match in any competition. We used to start poorly, it was always difficult for us to start well at the Africa Cup.” Belmadi said after the game.

Algeria defeated Kenya 2-0 at Air Defense Stadium thanks to two goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and RiyadMahrez.

Belmadi continued “We knew about this Kenya team; they were very well prepared. We knew their strengths and weaknesses. Without downplaying what Kenya did, I think we were good."
Algeria face a tough test at the second round of the group stage when they face one of the title contenders, Senegal, who will regain their biggest star, Sadio Mane, who lost Senegal’s first game for suspension.

The Algerian manager commented on the upcoming clash, saying “We expect a tough match against Senegal, the tournament favourite. It's a challenge we have to take on,”

Algeria lead the group with three points, level on points with Senegal who defeated Tanzania 2-0.
