Cairo 8 June 2017: Only two Arab teams have made it to the Women’s AfroBasket, which is set to start on August 18 in Mali. Egypt and Tunisia have both qualified for the competition and will do their best to qualify for the FIBA World Cup scheduled to be held in 2018 in Spain.

The Egyptian team is looking to profit from the fact that they have played as a team for a long time.

The team’s co-captain Menatallah Awad said on the tournament website, “some of us have played in the U19 and U17 world cup before. Now It’s time to try the FIBA Women’s World Cup. We believe we can do that.”

The Tunisian team will participate after a six-year absence from the tournament. Their Tunisian coach, Mohamed Ben Abdallah, announced the preliminary squad and he will depend on the young faces in the Tunisian basketball circuit.

Only 2 teams will qualify to the world cup and the Arab Fans hope to see one of the two teams in Spain next year.
