VAR to be used at Arab Club Championship semis

CAIRO – 27 February 2019: Union of Arab Football Associations (UAFA) revealed on Wednesday that Video Assistant Referees (VAR) will be implemented at Arab Club Championship starting from semi-finals.

UAFA reached an agreement with “HAWK-EYE” Company to be VAR technology provider.

The competition semi-finals will start on Wednesday when Tunisian giants, Etoile Du Sahel, hosts Sudan’s Al-Merrikh at the first leg at Stade Olympique de Sousse in Tunisia while the second leg will be played in Sudan on March 29.

Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal will face their arch rivals, Al-Ahli Jeddah, at the other semi-final and the dates will be decided later.

Egyptian giants, Al-Ahly, Zamalek and Ismaily, were knocked out of the competition from round of 16 while Al-Ittihad Alexandria was eliminated from the quarter finals after losing to Al Hilal.

The Final is scheduled on April 28 at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, UAE.

The champion will win $6 million, while the runners-up will win $2.5 million.
