CAIRO – 25 February 2019: Manchester United Spanish winger, Juan Mata, revealed on Monday that his injury became more serious after he chased Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah during the North West Derby on Sunday.

“I can’t remember having faced a similar situation in a game and that is after more than 12 years as a professional, it is the first time that a muscular injury has forced me off during a match.” Mata said after the game.

The Spaniard suffered a slight injury at the first minutes of the game but he could not complete the game after he chased Salah to stop Liverpool’s counter attack at the first half and was substituted after 25 minutes.

Mata added “I could feel something for a few minutes and I hope that I didn’t make it worse when racing to stop Salah on the counter-attack.”

Mata will not be available for Manchester United away game against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night at the Premier League.
