CAIRO – 4 June 2017: The Egyptian national football team’s head coach, Hector Cuper, received $50,000 to appear in a Ramadan advertisement for a telecom giant Vodafone.

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) stopped discussing the topic of the Argentinean coach’s appearance in the advertisement after news spread that the EFA asked for a percentage from Cuper, who is shown in the ad eating Fattah, a traditional Egyptian food.

A legal source in the EFA revealed that the contract between Cuper and the EFA does not include any terms that would require Cuper to obtain permission from the EFA for such an appearance or to give them a percentage of the money he earns.

Vodafone and other major companies in Egypt are known for celebrity appearances in their Ramadan ads.
