CAIRO – 12 February 2019: Al-Ahly lost 1-0 to Tanzania’s Simba on Tuesday afternoon at CAF Champions League's group stage.

Al-Ahly suffered their first loss at the group stage after two victories at home over Vita Club and Simba and a draw in Algeria against JS Saoura.

Al-Ahly manager, Martin Lasarte, counted on Ramdan Sobhi, Junior Ajayi and Hussein el-Shahat at the attacking line but the trio failed to break the hosts’ defense.

Simba’s winning goal came after 66 minutes by the team striker, Meddie kagere, after a defensive mistake from the Egyptian side.

Ajayi had a chance to equalize minutes before the final whistle after he received a cross from Shahat but he failed to score and the game ended with a victory for the hosts.

Al-Ahly is set to play two games at the group against Vita Club in Angola and JS Saoura in Egypt.

Despite the loss, Al-Ahly is leading the group with seven points, one point ahead of Simba and three points ahead of Vita Club who will face JS Saoura in Algeria on Tuesday night.

Al-Ahly failed to achieve their ninth title at the competition as they lost the last two Champions League Finals to Wydad Casablanca and Esperence, respectively.
