CAIRO – 3 February 2019: Youth and Sports min. Ashraf Sobhy revealed that the 2019 African Cup of Nations, which starts on June 21, tickets will be presented electronically.

“We are thinking about the stage of organizing the tournament at the highest level, it is one of the most important sports events in the World and it’s hosted by Egypt,” Sobhy said as he attended a seminar at Cairo International Book Fair.

Egypt won the rights to host the tournament after being selected over South Africa.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. However, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the tournament for serious delays in preparations.

“All the focus now is on the development of stadiums as its lighting and pitches need renovation,” Sobhy added.

Egypt Football Association president, Hany Abo Rida, revealed the Egyptian cities that will host the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt which is: Port Said, Suez and Ismailia will host the tournament alongside Cairo and Alexandria.

"We are making a lot of efforts in terms of the game ticket system, which will be launched electronically. The Egyptian fans should be keen to show Egypt's civilized form to the world through ideal encouragement," Ashraf Sobhy concluded.

Egypt is the most successful nation in the history of the competition as Egypt has won a record of seven titles including three in a row between 2006 and 2010.


Egypt hosted four African Cup of Nations tournaments in 1959, 1974, 1986 and 2006 and they failed to achieve the title only in 1974.
