CAIRO – 2 June 2016: The 2017-2018 football season starts September 8, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Competition Committee’s head Amer Hussien announced Thursday.

Hussien confirmed that the domestic Super Cup Competition will be held at the same time between the Premier League’s first and second round, expectedly next January.

The decision came following a meeting involving EFA officials, alongside with Hany Ramzy, the local national team’s coach.

EFA had previously picked up September 10 for the domestic Super Cup competition, which normally gets the Egyptian Premier League’s champions clash with Egypt’s Cup winner. It is expected to be held between the two Cairo giants Al-Ahly and Zamalek.

Egyptian National team’s coach Hector Cuper demanded the Super Cup games to get postponed lest players get over-exhausted before Uganda’s two-leg tie slated for August 28 and September 5; the high-profile game is a stepping stone for the World Cup qualification.
