CAIRO – 3 December 2018: Al-Ahly caretaker manager, Mohamed Youssef, believes that his team still has the chance to defend their league title despite their poor results in the last month.

“We are still on the league title race but we should not lose more points at the upcoming games. We are a big team and we will overcome the challenges we faced last period,” Youssef told press on Monday.

Youssef was appointed as Al-Ahly caretaker manager after the club sacked their French manager, Patrice Carteron, as Al-Ahly was knocked out from the 16th round of the Arab Club Championship and lost the CAF Champions League final to Esperance.

The Egyptian manager led Al-Ahly to return to the right track as they defeated Petrojet 1-0 at the league thanks to Ahmed el-Sheikh's goal.

Al-Ahly is preparing to face El-Gouna at the league on Wednesday night at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.

“It will be a tough game against El-Gouna and I have much respect for them,” Youssef added.

Asked about the injured players’ return date, Youssef said” Ahmed Fathy is about to return to the team and Hossam Ashour will be out for one week.”

Ashour suffered an injury during Petrojet game and left the pitch after 40 minutes; he was replaced by Amr el-Solia.
