CAIRO – 20 October 2018: Former French international, Thierry Henry, has been introduced on Wednesday as the new manager of AS Monaco, the team where he spent five years as a player between 1994 and 1999.

During his first press conference, Henry revealed to press that his former manager in Barcelona, Pep Guardiola, is his reference as football manager.

“Pep is the reference for me. I'm not saying for everyone. I re-learned how to play the game when I went to Barcelona under him,” Henry told press.

The French played two years under Guardiola’s command and he was a key player at the squad that won six titles in 2009.

Henry formed an attacking partnership with Lionel Messi and Samuel Eto’o. The trio dominated the European football in 2009 and produced a new kind of football commonly known as Tiki Taka.

Henry added “You guys know some of the inventions Guardiola has had in the game. He's way ahead of the game."

Henry will experience being the first team head coach for the first time as he spent two years working as an assistant manager for Roberto Martinez at Belgium national team.
