CAIRO – 11 August 2018: Liverpool’s Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, has been voted as UEFA Champions League Forward of the 2017/2018 Season according to the poll made by UEFA Champions League official account on Twitter.
Salah topped the list which included Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. He has been selected as UEFA Best Forward by 44% out of 281,305 voters. Ronaldo got 38% while Messi has been voted by only 18% of the voters.
The Egyptian winger had a sensational season with his club, Liverpool, having scored 44 goals last season, including 32 goals in the league to be the Premier League top goal scorer.
Salah also had a great campaign at the UEFA Champions League last season, having scored 10 goals for Liverpool at Champions League including five goals at knockout stages.
Salah goals led Liverpool to the Champions League final in Kiev where they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid.
Ronaldo won his nomination after leading Real Madrid to their third consecutive Champions League title, having scored 13 goals during Real’s campaign. He won the UEFA Champions League top goal scorer award.
Messi and his teammates in Barcelona were knocked out of the competition at the quarter finals by AS Roma. However, the Argentinean won his nomination for his sensational performances at the early stages of the competition.
The winner will be announced on August 30 at the UEFA ceremony in Monaco where the 2019 Champions League draw will be held.
