CAIRO – 5 July 2018: Uruguay national team striker, Edinson Cavani’s participation against France is not certain, according to Uruguayan reports.

The player suffered an injury at the round of 16's game against Portugal and left the pitch 20 minutes before the final whistle.

The striker had his best performance at the competition against Portugal, scoring the two goals that led his country to a 2-1 victory.

Uruguay Football Federation account on Twitter shared on Tuesday the medical report of Cavani’s injury that revealed he is still suffering from a small local area of the edema in the internal part of the left gastrocnemius muscle.

French midfielder, Blaise Matuidi, believes that Cavani’s absence would affect Uruguay's performance, saying “Uruguay without Cavani is not the same thing. You don't easily replace one of the best attackers in the world. It would be a handicap for them.”

Matuidi shared Paris Saint Germain's dressing room with Cavani between 2013 and 2017 before the French decided to join Juventus.

Matuidi praised Cavani, saying “He is a very generous man, who does not give up on anything, and I know that he will do everything, right up until the last moment to be on the pitch.”

Uruguay and France will open the quarter finals’ games on Friday at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
