CAIRO – 18 June 2018: The manager of the English national football team, Gareth Southgate, announced the starting line-up for the clash against Tunisia at their opening game of the 2018 World Cup.
Southgate picked Everton goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford, over Stoke City goalkeeper, Jack Butland to start the game.
He also decided to play with a 3-4-3 formation with Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane leading the attacking line.
Southgate chosen line-up for the game consists of:
Goalkeeper:
Jordan Pickford
Defenders:
John Stones, Harry Maguire, Kyle Walker
Midfielders:
Kieran Trippier, Jordan Henderson, Dele Alli, Ashley Young
Strikers:
Raheem Sterling, Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane.
“They have a hunger, a desire; we have better technical players than we've had in the past coming through our academies, so there's a real enthusiasm," Southagate said ahead of the game.
England players seek a repeat to their victory over Tunisia in 1998 when they defeated the North African team 2-0 thanks to goals from Alan Shearer and Paul Scholes.
The World Cup draw put England in Group G alongside Tunisia, Panama and Belgium.
English fans hope their players will win their second World Cup title.
