CAIRO – 25 May 2018: Zamalek announced on Thursday that they have reached an agreement with Egyptian International Handball player Yehia El Deraa to join the club.

Zamalek won the battle to sign the player as Al-Ahly were also interested in signing the player.

El Deraa signed a two-year contract with Zamalek on Thursday after he met with Zamalek’s president Mortada Mansour.

Deraa, 22, joined Esbjerg in summer 2017 from Heliopolis and since then has established himself as one of the top players at the club.

Deraa is one of the key players on the national team and has shined when participating with them at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the 2017 World Cup in France, but he missed the 2018 African Handball Championship due to injury.

Zamalek’s new manager Bassem El Sobky hopes Deraa will help his team in the domestic and African competitions next season.

Zamalek had a disastrous season on domestic levels as they lost the League to their rivals, Al-Ahly, and was eliminated from the Egyptian Cup at quarter finals.

El Deraa represented Al-Ahly on a loan in 2017 and represented the club in the Super African Cup, African Cup of League Champions and the African Cup of Cups.
