CAIRO – 23 May 2018: Al-Ahly and Zamalek are in negotiations with Danish team Esbjerg to sign their Egyptian international handball player, Yehia El Deraa.

Deraa, 22, joined Esbjerg in summer 2017 from Heliopolis and since then has established himself as one of the top players at the club.

Deraa joined Al-Ahly on a loan in 2017 and represented the club in the Super African Cup, African Cup of League Champions and the African Cup of Cups.

Deraa is one of the key players on the national team and he shined during their participation at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the 2017 World Cup in France, but he missed the 2018 African Handball Championship due to injury.

Al-Ahly manager Essam Hammad hopes to sign Deraa to strengthen his squad, which achieved the League title this season.

On the other hand, Zamalek’s new manager, Bassem El Sobky, hopes to win the race for Deraa to help his team in the domestic and African competitions next season.
