LONDON, May 15 (Reuters) - Tottenham Hotspur's Colombia central defender Davinson Sanchez has signed a new contract at the Premier League club until 2024 after being named in his country's provisional World Cup squad.

Sanchez, 21, joined Spurs from Ajax Amsterdam in August and became first-choice alongside Jan Vertonghen after the Belgian's regular partner Toby Alderweireld was injured in November.

He has played 41 times for Spurs this season as they finished third to qualify for the Champions League and he came off the bench in their 5-4 win over Leicester City on Sunday.

Sanchez made his debut for Colombia in November, 2016 and has seven caps ahead of next month's World Cup where Colombia have been drawn to face Poland, Senegal and Japan.

Sanchez was on Monday named in Colombia's 30-man preliminary squad for the tournament in Russia which starts on June 14.
