CAIRO – 4 May 2018: The World Cup is a tournament that no player wants to miss, but the season is long and injuries may hit players throughout the season.

In this situation, there are certain players who will not participate in the next World Cup with their national teams, like Ahmed El-Shennawy of Egypt, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of England, Laurent Koscielny of France, Zouhair Feddal of Morocco and Youssef Msakni of Tunisia.

However, due to the importance of the tournament, many national teams will wait for their stars while recovering from their injuries. Here are the most important players:

Elneny

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny is expected to miss the remainder of Arsenal’s season; he suffered ligament damage to his left ankle in West Ham’s match in April.

Neymar

Neymar Jr.

Neymar sprained his ankle and fractured a metatarsal playing his club, Paris Saint Germain, on Feb. 25. According to the Brazilian Football Confederation, a recovery of three months was estimated; he is waiting for the moment and could return to his national team to win their sixth World Cup title.

Boateng

Jerome Boateng

The Bayern Munich midfielder suffered an injury in an abductor muscle in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League’s semi-final against Real Madrid, and his participation in Russia is in danger.

Neuer

Manuel Neuer

On September 18, Manuel Neuer suffered an injury in his left foot. After being operated on, his return has been delayed and Ter Stegen could occupy his place with Germany.

Batshuayi

Michy Batshuayi

Borussia Dortmund’s striker suffered an injury to his right ankle during the clash with Schalke on April 15. He will miss the rest of the season; it is unclear at the moment if he can make it to the World Cup with Belgium.

Aguero

Sergio Aguero

The Argentinean striker has suffered various knee problems this season. He underwent an operation, which took him away from Manchester City’s matches. Argentina’s coach, Jorge Sampaoli, should be careful in choosing his strikers in the next World Cup.

Sigurdsson

Gylfi Sigurdsson

The star of Iceland suffered a knee injury in March with Everton, and although he is expected to return, he will not be back in his best condition.

Mendy

Benjamin Mendy

The Frenchman suffered a serious knee ligament injury early in the season. Although he is expected to recover before the competition, he needs enough time to fight for a place in France’s squad.
