CAIRO – 10 May 2017: A meeting to decide on the necessary budget for Egypt’s hosting of the FIBA Under-19 World Cup was held between Sports Minister Khaled Abdel Aziz and the Basketball Association president Magdy Abou Freikha.

"The championship enjoys both local and international attention," Abou Friekha said in press remarks, adding that the state officials, alongside with the ministry officials have been keen on following the ongoing preparations ahead of the championship kick-off.

The sports minister decided in a meeting with the committee’s board members on Tuesday to provide the championship's organizing committee with financial aid.

The first Under-19 FIBA World Cup to ever be seen on African soil will be played from July 1-9, with the participation of 16 countries.

Abou Freikha also added that a number of ministries have been officially addressed by the sports ministry to coordinate with the basketball association to ensure that all facilities are ready and to urge them to do whatever is necessary to make the event a grand success.
