CAIRO – 27 April 2018: Zamalek fans celebrated until the early Friday morning after their an unexpected victory over the Egyptian League champions and their biggest rivals, Al-Ahly, 2-1 in the Cairo Derby on Thursday night.

Former Zamalek striker Ahmed Hossam, known as Mido, congratulated Zamalek fans after the amazing victory.

“Zamalek players’ insistence to win made me confident that whatever happened for Zamalek, the club will never die,” Mido tweeted after the game.

Zamalek, under caretaker manager Khaled Galal, achieved their first victory against Al-Ahly in the Egyptian League since 2007.

Mido added, “It is an important victory at a crucial stage for all Zamalek fans and a great motivation to win the Egyptian Cup. Congratulations for all Zamalek fans.”

Zamalek put an end to Al-Ahly’s unbeaten run in the league and reconciled their fans after a disastrous season.

Zamalek reached the Egyptian Cup quarter-finals and will face El-Entag el-Harby on Wednesday with high spirits after winning the derby.
