CAIRO – 17 April 2018: Al-Ahly’s Moroccan striker, Walid Azaro, scored a goal to lead his team to defeat Wadi Degla 1-0 in the Egyptian League on Tuesday night.

Azarro’s goal made him the foreign player to score the most goals in the Egyptian League in one season.

Azaro scored 18 goals for Al-Ahly in the league this season, breaking the 17-goal record of Al-Ahly’s former Angolan striker, Flavio Amado, and Ismaily’s former Nigerian striker, John Utaka.

Flavio, who represented Al-Ahly between 2005 and 2009, scored 17 goals in 2007 to help his team to win the league, and he finished the season as the league’s top goal scorer.

Ismaily’s Utaka, meanwhile, was the league’s top goal scorer in 2001, also scoring 17 goals.

Al-Ahly leads the Egyptian League table with 82 points and they need to win another two games to surpass Zamalek’s record of 87 points in 2015.

The Moroccan striker joined Al-Ahly in 2017 from Morocco’s Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi and has since then established himself as one of the key players on the team.
