Zamalek hopes to improve their position to qualify to the African championship. Zamalek places third in the standings table with 54 points while Ittihad places 12th with 36 points.

The Alexandrian team looks to continue their amazing league’s run as they recently beat Al-Masry in a tough match.

Zamalek only won one game against Al Rajaa in their last five matches in the Egyptian league and lost the last three clashes, leading to their elimination from the African Confederation Cup after their game against Welayta Ditcha in the 64th round. They also got defeated 3-1 in the match against their Egyptian League opponent and the second-placed, Ismaili.

Zamalek's last game against Ittihad was on December 20, 2017 when they defeated the Alexandrian side 2-0.

Zamalek are going through many crises, especially after their last loss against Misr Al-Makassah. Ihab Galal, Zamalek’s coach, resigned and then retracted; Zamalek’s captains, Mohamed Ibrahim and Hazem Emam, were fined after an inappropriate conversation with the manager.
