CAIRO – 12 April 2018: Arturo Affilio, Spain’s ambassador to Cairo, watched Real Madrid's game against Juventus at the UEFA Champions League quarter finals on Wednesday April 11, with Egyptian Real Madrid fans in an event in Cairo.

La Liga delegate to Egypt, Juan Fuentes Fernandez also attended the event alongside the Spain’s ambassador.

Affilio was happy as Real Madrid managed to qualify to the Champions League semi finals after a difficult game; Real Madrid lost 3-1 at the second leg in Madrid despite winning 3-0 at the first leg in Turin.

“Sports play a positive role in connecting people. The Egyptian and the Spanish people have many things in common and I am so happy with the Egyptian fans’ love for Spanish football,” The ambassador told EFE after the game.

Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, has had an amazing season with his team and has been linked with a move to Real Madrid next season.

The ambassador commented on the rumors, saying “I hope to see Salah wearing Real Madrid’s jersey one day.”

Salah led Liverpool to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2008.

Asked about Egypt’s chances at the World Cup in Russia, he said “Egypt has a great team and they will shine at the World Cup; they have Salah who has had a great season with Liverpool at the Premier League.”

Egypt plays in Group A at the World Cup alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and the host nation, Russia.
