CAIRO – 9 April 2018: Arsenal and Egyptian national team midfielder Mohamed Elneny became the first Egyptian to be sent off this season in any of the European leagues in the Sunday game against Southampton.

Elneny received the red card on the 91st minute of Arsenal’s game against Southampton, which ended by a 3-2 victory to Arsenal. Elneny was sent off following an altercation with Jack Stephens, Southampton’s defender.

International Egyptian players have managed to keep a clean slate in the current season, with no players sent off, before Elneny’s red card in Sunday’s game.

It is worth mentioning that this is the first red card the player ever receives in his football career since he started with El Moqawloon in 2010/2011.
