CAIRO – 5 April 2018: Hany Abo Reida, president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), declared that EFA’s first choice is to assign a foreign coach to manage the Egyptian National Team in case current coach, Hector Cuper, doesn't renew his contract.

Cuper led the Egyptian team to qualify to the 2018 World Cup, to be held in Russia in June, after 28 years of absence.

Under the management of the Argentinean coach, the Egyptian team also reached the 2017 African Cup of Nations’ final match after seven years of absence, but failed to achieve the ninth title.

“I trust Cuper a lot and I spoke with him to stay until the 2019 African Cup of Nations,” Abo Reida said.

“We want to repeat Morocco’s experience as they are on the right track with their French coach, Hervy Renard,” he added.

“If Cuper doesn't renew his contract, we will assign a foreign coach. However, all the Egyptian coaches like Hossam Hassan and Hossam el-Badry have the chance to be on the bench of the Egyptian National team,” Abo Reida concluded.
