CAIRO – 3 April 2018: Hany Abu Reida, president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and member of the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), held a meeting Tuesday morning with Khaled Mortaga, member of the board of directors of Al-Ahly, who was appointed by the club's president, Mahmoud el-Khatib, and Amr Fahmy, CAF general secretary.

The meeting was held to remove the misunderstanding that arose between Al-Ahly and CAF, which happened during the meeting of the committee of African clubs towards Al-Ahly board member Rania Elwani.

CAF refused Elwani’s attendance at the meeting of the African clubs committee instead of Khatib, claiming that the meeting was only for the presidents of clubs, which caused a crisis between Al-Ahly and CAF.

During the meeting, Mortaga and Fahmy explained their organizations’ respective points of view about the crisis, stressing at the same time on the importance of mutual respect and their determination to move forward in their cooperation to clear any problems between CAF and Al-Ahly.

Fahmy added that Elwani is appreciated within the world of sports for her role as an active member of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and a member of the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, Mortaga stressed Al-Ahly’s keenness for the success of CAF, especially since one of its leaders is young Egyptian Amr Fahmy, who has the appreciation and support of Al-Ahly, the largest club in Africa.

Abu Reida said in this regard that what happened was nothing more than a misunderstanding, which is now completely removed, and the relationship between CAF and Al-Ahly is deeper and wider than what happened.
