CAIRO – 3 April 2018: Al-Ahly faces Smouha on Tuesday night at the Men’s African Volleyball Championship semi-finals at Abdulla Al Faysal Halls.

Smouha players hope to eliminate another Egyptian team from the competition after knocking Egypt’s Aviation out of the quarter finals. Smouha defeated Aviation 3-2 on Monday.

Al-Ahly reached the semi-finals after defeating Kenya’s GUS 3-1.

GUS is the first team in the competition to win a set against Al-Ahly, as the Egyptian team won all their group stage games with a score of 3-0.

“It will be a difficult game but we will do everything to defeat Smouha and reach the finals. It is a big responsibility to win the title and make our fans happy,” stated Al-Ahly’s Ahmed Said on the club’s official website after defeating GUS.

Al-Ahly, the title holders, hope to achieve their 13th title in the competition. Al-Ahly has a record of 12 titles, and is hosting the competition from March 27 to April 6.

On the other semi-finals, Egypt’s El Gaish faces Libya’s Asswehly SC earlier on Tuesday.

El Gaish, who won the title in 2016, will count on their veteran Ahmed Salah to defeat the Libyan team.

Egyptian fans hope El Giash will defeat the Libyan opponent so they can watch two Egyptian teams at the finals.
