CAIRO – 30 March 2018: Al-Ahly Nigerian striker’s Junior Ajayi’s performances with his club at the domestic competitions and CAF Champions League earned him his first call to represent his country at the FIFA International break in March.

“It was a dream come true but I wished I had more time but I will work hard to get another chance to play more,” Ajayi told Nigerian sports website, CSN.

Ajayi came as a substitute to Arsenal’s Alex Iwobia in the last minutes against Serbia in the game the Nigerians lost 2-0.

Ajayi commented on his debut, saying, “The result was not what we wanted but there are positives to be learnt from it.”

Ajayi, 22, hopes to earn Nigeria’s national team manager Salisu Yusuf’s confidence and to join the national team’s squad that will participate in the World Cup in the summer.

“There are more friendly games to be played before the World Cup and I hope to get in another chance,” added Ajayi.

Nigeria plays in Group D alongside Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria.

Ajayi participated in Al-Ahly’s campaign to achieve the Egyptian League title six weeks before the end of the season.

Ajayi joined Al-Ahly in 2016 from Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien and since then he established himself as a key player at Al-Ahly squad.
