CAIRO – 22 March 2018: Al-Ahly assistant coach Ahmed Ayoub revealed on Wednesday that his team will do everything to win the CAF Champions League title to qualify to the FIFA Club World Cup.

“We have one goal: to win the competition and return to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. It is a tough mission, but we will do everything to win the Champions League title,” Ayoub told Al-Ahly’s official website after the draw.

The draw put Al-Ahly in Group A alongside Botswana’s Township Rollers F.C., Uganda’s Kampala City and Tunisia’s Espérance.

Ayoub commented on the draw, saying, “There is no easy group at this stage. We will play against strong teams that also want to win the title, but we will prepare well for these games.”

Al-Ahly has won a record eight CAF Champions League titles, but they failed to achieve the title since 2013 when they defeated South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the final.

Al-Ahly reached the 2017 CAF Champions League final but lost to Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.

Al-Ahly will open their group stage games at home against Espérance before facing Kampala City in Uganda.

Al-Ahly’s third game will be against Botswana’s Township Rollers at home and then they will play again against Township in Botswana.

Al-Ahly’s last two games in the group stage will be against Espérance in Tunisia and Kampala City at home.
