CAIRO – 21 March 2018: CAF Confederation Cup draw held on Wednesday in Cairo, Egypt, put Al-Masry against Gabon’s Mounana at CAF Confederation Cup round of 32.

Egyptian fans have come to know Mounana in recent weeks when the club faced Al-Ahly at CAF Champions League first round.

Mounana lost the first game in Cairo 4-0. Marwan Mohsen opened the score for Al-Ahly before Walid Azarro’s goal rendered the score 2-0 at the first half.
In the second half, Abdallah El-Said added two goals to secure Al-Ahly’s victory.

Al-Ahly repeated their victory in the second leg in Gabon. Al-Ahly won the game 3-1 thanks to Mido Gaber, Walid Azarro and Walid Soliman goals.

Mounana’s loss at CAF Champions League’s first round sent them to CAF Confederation Cup’s round of 32.

“There are no easy teams at the competitions but we wanted to face Mounana after their loss to Al-Ahly,” Al-Masry’s vice president, Mohamed El Kholy, told press after the draw.

Al-Masry qualified to CAF Confederation Cup round of 32 after they eliminated Tanzania’s Simba as they ended the first leg in Tanzania with a 2-2 draw while the second leg ended with a goalless draw. Al-Masry qualified thanks to the away goals rule.
