Al-Ahly wins Egyptian Basketball Cup

CAIRO – 21 March 2018: Al-Ahly defeated Sporting 72-69 on Tuesday in the Egyptian Basketball Cup final to achieve Al-Ahly’s ninth title in the competition.

Al-Ahly players achieved the title after a tough game against Sporting, the title holders.

Sporting ended the first half leading the game 37-36, but Al-Ahly players returned in the game in the second half to achieve the title.

Al-Ahly manager Tarek Khairy revealed his happiness after achieving the title, saying, “It was a difficult game and I want to thank all the players for their efforts during the whole competition.”

Al-Ahly ended Sporting’s dominance over the competition, as Sporting had won the last five titles, defeating Al-Ahly in the last two finals.

After the victory, Al-Ahly captain Tarek El Ghannam said, “We are doing everything we can to make the fans happy and to achieve their dreams. I want to thank the board and the fans for supporting us to achieve such an important title.”

On the other hand, Smouha defeated Zamalek to achieve the third place in the competition.
