CAIRO - 14 March 2018: Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago believes Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is the best player he has ever seen.
“He is the best I have seen in my life. He has an incredible personality; he understands the game perfectly. He has fought for 14 years to be the best without letting himself down, and that shows how he is,” Gago told Marca on Wednesday.
Gago, 31, shares the Argentinean national team dressing room with Messi since 2005 when they won the 2005 U-20 World Cup in Germany.
Gago also played against Lionel Messi between 2007 and 2011 when Gago played for Real Madrid.
Gago added, “we know he has the ability to win a match in no time at all. I always feel he can make us win at any time.”
Gago is recovering from a knee injury that he picked in a game against Peru at the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and he hopes to be with Messi and the national team at the World Cup in Russia.
He added that “it would be something magical. Firstly, I have to play with Boca, and then I will think about it when the World Cup approaches.”
