CAIRO – 11 February 2018: Egyptian female football player Sarah Essam won January’s Goal of the Month prize for her goal against Pelsall Villa, according to Stoke City Ladies FC.

Sarah got 57% of the votes, according to the Stoke City Ladies FC official account on Twitter.

Stoke City was placed 4th in the standings, with 25 points. They face Cardiff City on Sunday.

For the first time in the history, a female Egyptian football player is joining the FA Women’s Premier League.

Eighteen-year-old Sarah Essam joined the Stoke City Ladies football club to be the first Egyptian woman to play in the UK as a professional football player.

“Achieving a dream is never an easy road. You have to put in effort, work hard, break boundaries and give all your love and heart to the game,” says Essam.

She played for Egypt’s national team during the African Cup qualifiers at the age of 16 and signed for Stoke City at age 18.

The former Wadi Degla player prefers to play as an attack-forward or a playmaker. She participated in the U17s World Cup qualification and made more than 20 appearances with the Egyptian national team.
