CAIRO – 17 January 2018: West Bromwich Albion have sent an offer to Zamalek to sign their international defender, Ali Gabr, according to Kingfut. Gabr could join Ahmed Hegazi on West Brom’s defensive line if the deal happens.

Ahmed Hegazi’s performance with his team since he joined the club last summer from Al-Ahly encouraged the club to strengthen their squad by signing his partner on the Egyptian national team’s defense.

Gabr, 29, has been followed by West Brom scouts during his participation with the national team in the 2017 African Cup of Nations, but the club decided to sign Hegazi, according to the club’s former manager, Tony Pulis.

“I liked the two Egyptian centre-halves – him (Hegazi) and the lad alongside him (Gabr). We followed it up and found out he'd most probably be the best and we've taken a chance. Hopefully it'll be a chance that has come off," Pulis told Birminghammail.co.uk.

Gabr is expected to replace the club captain, Johnny Evans, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City since the summer.
