CAIRO – 17 January 2018: Al-Ahly defeated El-Gaish 2-0 on Tuesday in the 17th round of the Egyptian League at Air defense stadium to take the lead of the league one point ahead Al-Ismaily.

Al-Ahly succeeded to be on the top of the table for the first time this season.

The red devils controlled the game but wasted a lot of chances to raise the score because Walid Azzaro and Junior Ajayee were not in top form.

Mido Gaber took the lead in the 38th minute after he headed the ball inside El-Gaish’s goal, taking advantage of Bassem Ali’s cross.

Amr El-Soleya doubled the score in the 78th minute after a pass from Al-Ahly’s midfielder Abdullah El-Said.

The game witnessed the return of Marwan Mohsen, Al-Ahly’s striker, after nearly one year of absence due to his injury which he sustained in the game with the Egyptian national team against Morocco in the African Cup of Nations held in January 2017.

Now, Al-Ahly tops the table with 42 points from 17 games, with one postponed game less against Al-Mokawlon El-Arab. El-Gaish kept in the 8th place with 25 points.
