Egyptians' votes crown Aboutrika best Egyptian player ever

CAIRO – 9 January 2018: Former Al-Ahly player Mohamed Aboutrika was voted the best Egyptian outfield player in history in a FIFA World Cup Twitter account poll. Aboutrika received 111,041 votes to win the poll with 56% of the votes.


FIFA World Cup created a poll to ask Egyptians who is the best Egyptian outfield player. The poll included Mohamed Salah, Mahmoud El Khatib and Hossam Hassan beside the winner, Aboutrika.


Salah received 38% of the votes and Khatib won 6%, while Hossam Hassan got only 2%.


Aboutrika is Tersana academy product and he got promoted through the club rankings until he joined the first team in 1997. He played seven years for the club before joining Al-Ahly in 2004.


Aboutrika established himself as one of the best players in Al-Ahly’s history, as he led the club to win five CAF Champions League titles, seven Egyptian League titles and two Egyptian Cup titles.


Aboutrika was a member of Egypt’s national team during their golden era, and he won two African Cup of Nations titles in 2006 and 2008.
