CAIRO – 4 January 2018: Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, arrived in Accra, Ghana to attend CAF Player of the Year Award ceremony. Mohamed Salah is nominated for the award alongside his Liverpool teammate, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Egyptians hope that Salah will win the award to end 35 years of waiting as Mahmoud el-Khatib was the only Egyptian to win the award in 1983 and since then no other Egyptian player has won it.

Salah had a fantastic year with AS Roma, scoring 10 goals, providing two assists to lead the club to finish second in the league and qualify to the UEFA Champions League.

Salah left Roma to join Liverpool. The player shined in the Premier League, scoring in total 22 goals for the team.

Salah also led Egypt’s national team to the 2018 World Cup after a 28-year absence. He scored five out of seven goals in the qualifiers.
